Wonderful! Counsellor!

Merry Christmas!

Isaiah 9:6  For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

After all the preparation and anticipation is over, there is peace.  Reality sets in.  The day has finally come for Jesus’ arrival.  He is here.  Now what?  Now we continue on; not as we were before our preparations started, but with a bigger heart and more willing to follow Him.  Remembering how we felt when giving to others and recreating that feeling by continuing to give of our time and friendship and love.  God submitted Himself to this lowly state of mortality to experience pain, sickness, heartache and evil.  Why?  So He would know how to succor His people (you and me).

And peace, good will toward men!

Christmas is coming

I didn’t use to be sure whether the Bible was just full of good advice or writings of real experiences of real people.

But, once I learned how to find out and then took the steps, it didn’t take long.  It’s really quite simple: Read, Ponder and Pray

It’s a pattern to use to find out if anything is true.  The Holy Spirit will witness to us of any truth; earth-shattering or miniscule.  I have also found that I can know something is true without fully understanding its meaning.  Sometimes that takes a lifetime of staying on the right path.  References to related scriptures also help. 🙂

The Holy Bible IS writings of real people with real experiences.  Jesus Christ is a real person.  He IS the Savior of the world.

The Old Testament prophets all testified of Jesus Christ (Jehovah).  Through Isaiah, the Lord gave the people a sign of Christ’s birth:

Isa. 7:14  “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”

Christmas Day!

<– From the beginning – Leading up to the first Christmas Day on the American continents

3 Nephi 1:19 – 22

19 And it came to pass that there was no darkness in all that night, but it was as light as though it was mid-day. And it came to pass that the sun did rise in the morning again, according to its proper order; and they knew that it was the day that the Lord should be born, because of the sign which had been given.

20 And it had come to pass, yea, all things, every whit, according to the words of the prophets.

21 And it came to pass also that a new star did appear, according to the word.

22 And it came to pass that from this time forth there began to be lyings sent forth among the people, by Satan, to harden their hearts, to the intent that they might not believe in those signs and wonders which they had seen; but notwithstanding these lyings and deceivings the more part of the people did believe, and were converted unto the Lord.

Just like today, there is so much time and effort spent on the preparation for Christmas.  Then it seems to be over so quickly.  Even though the event is in the past, I want to remember, study, think and pray about its meaning, so that it wasn’t all in vain and Christ will continue to affect my life.  Don’t let the disappointment of the end of the event overshadow what just happened!

Rejoice!  Rejoice!  Emmanuel!

Helaman 14:5

And behold, there shall a new star arise, such an one as ye never have beheld; and this also shall be a sign unto you.

How many times, in the scriptures, have people seen angels or other great wonders and then immediately or later doubted what they saw?  It’s human nature to try to apply our own reasoning to explain what we’ve seen.  God gave us a brain for a reason.  We should use it!  But aren’t we always learning and gaining knowledge so we can increase our reasoning ability?  So how do we know the truth?  God and Jesus Christ are the source of all truth.  The Holy Spirit communicates truth to us.  So he is an important part of being prepared to see, hear or experience the signs around us.  If we have the Holy Spirit as our constant companion, the signs are another witness of Christ and they help build our faith in Him.  Part of our reasoning things out needs to be “what do I feel?”  It also needs to include prayer to Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ to know the truth.  Through the Holy Spirit, we will know their answer.
