We saw our first BEAR! We’ve worked in bear country for 2 years, not to mention 6 or 7 trips to Yellowstone, and haven’t seen a bear in the wild until today! We startled him when he started to cross the road. So we pulled over about 30 yards past him to see if he’d try again. Sure enough! He crawled under the side rail when he got to the other side….pretty animal (from 30 yards with a truck between he and I; truck running and pointed in opposite direction).
We drove up to the Lake Sullivan area today to see some of the FS campgrounds that American Land & Leisure manages and meet some of the hosts. Edgewater is the one we decided to stay in. It only has about 20 sites – all dry camping with vault toilets. It is a hidden gem. Most people go on up the road to Lake Sullivan. This one hardly gets used. It’s a beautiful campground though; right on the Pend Oreille river. The host encourages people to walk through her site to get to the good swimming area. A camper just caught a nice walleye today!
